Nadiem Named a Suspect, Buya Anwar: Prabowo Is Determined to Eradicate Corruption, Must Be Supported!

JAKARTA — Corruption eradication efforts continue under President Prabowo Subianto. Most recently, former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim was named a suspect by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) in an alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.

According to Anwar Abbas, Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Leadership (PP), Prabowo intends to fulfill his promise to eradicate corruption. Therefore, he urged the public to continue supporting Prabowo's efforts.

"But what is clear to me is that Prabowo promised during the presidential election and in various speeches that he would eradicate corruption, and I see that he has implemented that," said Buya Anwar, quoted on Monday (September 8, 2025).

The Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) observed that corruption is rampant, not only within the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, where losses reached Rp1.98 trillion. Corruption also exists at various levels, not just in the executive branch but also in the legislative and judicial branches.

"So, the country is sickened by corruption. And Prabowo seems determined to eradicate it. Therefore, it is our duty to support him," he stressed.

Buya Anwar didn't want to get involved in the debate surrounding the politicization of Nadiem's case. He simply observed that, with his knowledge, someone entrusted with this responsibility would be fearless and confident in making decisions or policies.

"Only people who don't know how to run something are afraid to act. Those who do know wouldn't be afraid. An F1 driver isn't afraid to race because he already knows and has the knowledge. But he certainly can't and wouldn't dare to fly a private jet because he doesn't know how to pilot one," he concluded.
