Revealed! Police Commissioner Cosmas Ordered Bripka Rohmad to Break Through Demonstrators and Run Over an Ojek Driver
JAKARTA – The Panel of Judges at the Indonesian National Police Professional Code of Ethics (KKEP) Trial stated in its draft decision that Bripka Rohmad received orders from Kompol Cosmas Kaju Gae to continue moving forward when the Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) was trapped in the middle of a chaotic demonstration on August 28, 2025.
The vehicle continued to drive through the crowd, marking the incident that led to the crushing of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver Affan Kurniawan.
"Another factor is that the alleged perpetrator was only following orders from his superior, Police Commissioner Cosmas Kaju Gae, to proceed. As a subordinate, he was carrying out orders, not of his own free will," said the Panel of Judges at the Indonesian National Police's Criminal Investigation Trial on Thursday (September 4, 2025).
Furthermore, the Assembly stated that Brigadier Rohmad was exposed to tear gas while driving a Brimob tactical vehicle (rantis) that allegedly hit motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan. "During the protest on August 29, 2025, the alleged violator was exposed to tear gas," he said.
Due to exposure to tear gas, the panel stated that Bripka Rohmad was unable to see clearly. "This caused the alleged offender's eyes to sting and he was unable to see clearly. Furthermore, stones, firecrackers, and pieces of wood were thrown at the car," he said.
The KKEP Commission sentenced Brigadier Rohmad to a seven-year demotion in connection with the death of online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan during a violent demonstration. Bripka Rohmad was the driver of the Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) vehicle that allegedly ran over Affan Kurniawan.
